of the objects'
PROJECT is PART-financed BY THE EUROPEAN UNION
The project is co-financed by the TACIS Fund,
under the framework of the Lithuania, Poland and Kaliningrad
Region of the Russian Federation Neighbourhood Programme INTERREG
IIIA/TACIS.

'Polish Gothic Castles'
Partners of the projects: Administration of Polessk Municipality
District, Ministry of Economy of the Kaliningrad region
Project realisation period: September 2007 - September 2009
The general aim of the project is to revitalize
Gothic castles in the Kaliningrad Region and to promote them
amongst the Russian and Polish tourism market through the
Trail of the Gothic Castles.
The present castles in the Kaliningrad Region
were built by the Order of Teutonic Knights, bishops or the
episcopal chapter. Those castles are mainly associated with
the presence of the Teutonic Order state in this land. Similar
historical objects, raised at the same time and identified
with the Teutonic state, exist in north-eastern part of Poland,
which means that they lie near the Polish-Russian border.
Although the historical and cultural relationships between
those castles are quite strong, their present condition and
use for cultural or tourist-related functions are different.
The project accomplishes: the principal aim of the programme
by supporting transborder cooperation between countries and
societies in borderland areas. The project stimulates economic
development of the area which covers by undertaking activities
the aim at revitalizing historical buildings as well as those
whose purpose is to develop transborder tourist trails, created
around historical and cultural values.
Activities taken in order to achieve objectives: elaboration
of the documentation which will enable the revitalization
of the castle in Labiau (Polessk), elaboration of the strategy
for the development of tourism at nine castles in the Kaliningrad
Region, production of promotional and information publications
about the Gothic castles, promotion of the castles by the
tourism fairs, extension of the Association's webpage by the
new objects from the Kaliningrad region.
