Josephine Festival – Terezín Fortress

The Josephine Festival commemorates the founding of the Terezín Fortress on 10 October 1780. Traditionally, they are set mainly in the 18th century. Their aim is to commemorate the unique Terezín fortress and the events that preceded its construction. It is one of the largest celebrations focusing on this period in Europe. Every year they are visited by visitors from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Poland, France, Austria, Russia, Serbia and other countries. For one day you will return to the era of colourful uniforms and lace, to the time of gunpowder and beautiful ladies. You’ll walk through military encampments, marketplaces, old crafts and get a taste of a time long lost centuries ago. You will experience the turmoil of the conquest of the fortress, walk the walls of Terezín and its underground and taste something truly unusual.
