HOTEL ST. BRUNO IN GIŻYCKU
Past and present
Hotel St. Bruno was built in a stylishly restored Teutonic castle, which dates back to the 14th century. Over the course of these several hundred years, the building changed its appearance and purpose. Originally built by the Teutonic Crosses, the defensive fortress served as the Renaissance hunting residence of the princes, after 1850 – the headquarters of the Boyen Fortress command.
Between WWI and WWII, when Giżycko – Lötzen was an elite resort. Paul von Hindenburg (later elected President of Germany) turned the building, which until then served as his private accommodation, into a regional museum. The situation has become even worse during the communist period, when the building went to rack and ruin. It was not until 2010 when it was finally restored to become a 4-star boutique hotel, which happens to be the only 4-star hotel in this area.
Hotel St. Bruno combines the exceptional atmosphere of historical site with the precision of contemporary design and latest global trends prevailing in the accommodation industry. Apart from renowned sights as the Boyen Fortress, Water Tower and 19thcentury tenements, St. Bruno Hotel constitutes one of the most characteristic structures resembling of the town’s intriguing history.
