A study tour for Russian journalists in the Kaliningrad region

On 13 – 18 September 2021 the first study tour for 3 Russian journalists of the leading travel publications in the frame of the Project’s activities took place. The journalists got acquainted with the city of Kaliningrad: they took a walk through the Rybnaya village, examined the revived building of the Synagogue, visited the main symbol of the city – the Cathedral, the old bridges, fortifications of the inner ring: “Zakheim”, “Royal” “Rosgarten” gates, defensive structures of the “Crown Prince” Barracks and the “Grolman” bastion. Walking tour of the medieval town, former Gerdauen, (now Zheleznodorozhny) took them into the past, where they met with the most interesting architecture, partially preserved from the Middle Ages. There was also an excursion to Sovetsk, the legendary Tilsit – a kind of educational journey into the distant past. They visited the city where the famous Tilsit Peace was signed in 1807, the “Tilsit” cheese was first made and the “Brandy Alexander” cocktail was invented. An excursion to the Neman introduced the amazing history of Teutonic past of Ragnit. They were able to see the majestic ruins of the castle of the XIV-XV centuries and feel the atmosphere of the medieval city, as well as taste the unique craft cheeses of local production. There was also a journey to the Curonian Spit National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Travel articles have been published in electronic journals: Interfax and Tutu.ru.
