Oct 10, 2021

On 04 – 09 October 2021 the second study tour for 3 Russian journalists of the leading travel publications in the frame of the Project’s activities took place. The study tour began with the history of Kaliningrad. They continued acquaintance with the historical heritage and visited Fort Donhof – that was built in 1877-1881 and is the only one of the fifteen forts of Kaliningrad that has survived almost completely in its original form.  Then, the journalists visited Polessk (formerly Labiau), which is called the Prussian Venice and a paradise for visitors. They overviewed of Labiau Castle (13th century), associated with the name of Duchess Dorothea, wife of Duke Albrecht, memories of Napoleon and Queen Louise, campaigns of the Teutonic Knights and the Middle Ages on the shores of the Baltic Sea and the Balga castle (1239). Walking tours took place in the resort towns of Svetlogorsk and Zelenogradsk. The journalists also visited “Shaaken Dorf” – a fairly new object on the tourist map of the Kaliningrad region, but no less attractive from this. The building of the cheese dairy, the chocolate factory and the sales area are designed in a simple style that attracts the attention of lovers of antiquity. During the excursion, you can learn a lot of interesting things about the technology of cheese and chocolate production and taste these products.
